Homeland Security, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and; the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, require the establishment of the Parsippany Office of Emergency Management; (POEM); to protect the lives and property of its citizens in the face of natural or man-made disasters.

Emergency Management is the discipline of applying science, technology, planning and management to deal with extreme events that can injure or kill large numbers of people, do extensive damage to property, and disrupt community life for long periods. OEM also enables the Township of Parsippany and its residents to be eligible for disaster assistance and reimbursement.

Our mission is to:

1. Identify and mitigate potential threats.
2. Prepare plans to deal with various disasters.
3. Coordinate and respond to disasters.
4. Coordinate recovery efforts following a disaster.

POEM is responsible for directing all disaster responses within the Township of Parsippany.
